Concert and Contest Behavior
-

Students need to be ON TIME! We practice before each concert so please respect this time.
-
Queens Lake Middle School students represent our school district, our department, their families and themselves. A student's best behavior is expected at all times.
-
All QLMS school rules are in effect at all times on and off campus.
-
Students must treat others with respect and avoid the use of profanity or suggestive language.
-
Students must not speak negatively about other school groups, performers or directors. Even educational comments/opinions at a concert can be misconstrued by people within earshot. Save your thoughts until rehearsal the next day. They are always welcome!
-
Students must comply by YCSD rules.

Conflicts
-
Ms. Rakowski has been working with the QLMS Athletic Director to make sure no conflicts arise for concerts and games.
-
The QLMS Band Department is not a second-class citizen. While conflicts will occasionally arise, the calendar year for our department is not nearly as extensive as many other sports and extracurricular activities on campus. Please honor the needs of this program alongside the rest of your busy schedule when presenting problems and possible conflict solutions to Ms. Rakowski.
-
You will never be placed in the middle of a tug-of-war if you provide Ms. Rakowski with conflicts in a timely fashion (see Absences). The Band Department will do everything in its power to take the burden of conflict resolution off your shoulders by finding a compromise that suits both conflicting parties.
-
Apathy and laziness are never a conflict. These are exciting times for the entire program and the QLMS Band program needs you as it grows into a recognized product of true excellence. Please help energize yourself and the people around you. You make a difference and should never feel like skipping a rehearsal or performance is the best use of your time!
Alternative Assignment
An alternative assignment will be provided in the case of an excused absence during a concert performance. Students will take a music education topic provided by Ms. Rakowski and write a two-page essay due one week after the initial excused absence. The paper should be size twelve font, Times New Roman and double spaced with two works cited when appropriate. Students are expected to ask Ms. Rakowski for this assignment upon their return to class the following day of the performance. Student will also be asked to play their music for Ms. Rakowski.
